New Jersey July iGaming Numbers

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) has release their revenue numbers for July which shows growth with both a year-on-year and month-on-month basis. You can see their press release by clicking this link.

http://www.nj.gov/oag/ge/docs/Financials/PressRel2015/July2015PressRelease.pdf

The final numbers total to $12.5 million, which represents an increase of 24.4% on the $10.1 million in July of 2014. It’s also a jump from the $11.7 million posted in June of this year.

Total online gaming numbers for the year-to-date is now at $84.5 million, and increase of 15.6% on the $73.1 million at the same point in 2014.

Borgata, PartyPoker and Pala Interactive continue to lead in New Jersey with revenue of $3.8 million in July, up from $3.2 million last year.

NJ Online Poker Still Lagging

Online poker in New Jersey continues to struggle posting a $1.8 million in revenue compared to 2.1 million a year ago which represents a decrease of 12.2%. However, when comparing the July online poker numbers to last month, it was up slightly by $50,109.

Total gaming revenue for New Jersey, comprising online and land-based activities, amounted to $257.5 million in July, up 8.1% from $238.3 million last year.

For the year to date, the state’s total gaming numbers are at $1.5 billion, down 9.4% in the $1.6 billion posted last year.

However, taking into account the closure of four casinos since then in that time, this July’s figure instead represents year-on-year growth of 4.8%.

GVC Holdings raises their offer to acquire Bwin.Party

bwin.party-CEO-Norbert-TeufelbergerThe news a couple of weeks ago that 888 Holdings had won the competition to buy Bwin.Party might have been premature. 888 Holdings’s rival in a buyout has re-entered the with a better offer than one which was turned down earlier in July.

GVC Holdings entered a $1.55 billion bid for Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment, in an attempt to beat a rival reported as $1.3 billion from 888 Holdings. Bwin.Party accepted the deal from the 888Holdings, though this latest offer could muddy the waters.

The earlier offer from GVC Holdings and Amaya Inc. was for $908 million, but was declined. The current $1.55 billion offer from GVC does not have Amaya Gaming, the owner of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, as a partner.

Davy Research Data

Davy Research released the following analysis: “This is a real statement of intent from GVC. The proposed premium over the accepted offer by 888 is such that the bwin.party board will probably have no choice but to reconsider its acceptance of the 888 offer. We would be surprised if 888 does not come back with a counter-offer of its own.”

GVC Holdings said the latest offer would include new GVC shares, along with a $443 million loan from Cerberus Capital Management. GVC also said Amaya Gaming would not be a part of the second offer. The original offer had Amaya Inc. picking up some of Bwin.Party’s sports betting assets, a level of complexity which Bwin’s board felt was too complex for their tastes.

Jason Ader Is Leaning Towards 888’s Offer

Despite having the biggest bid on paper, activist investor Jason Ader said he still views the offer from GVC Holdings as “inadequate” and would vote for the 888 holdings offer as it stands. Ader’s word holds a great deal of sway, because he is one of the top 5 investors Bwin Party. Also, he holds two of the seats on the board of directors, because he won the right last year to sit on the board and appoint someone else to a seat on the board, as well.

The latest GVC offer appears to be at 122.5 pence per share. This consists of 25 pence in cash and the remaining cash at 97.5 pence in new GVC shares. The deal sounds like it is 18% higher than 888’s offer price of 104.09 pence, but the fact investors are being asked to take more speculative stocks makes the 888 holdings offer look better, at least to one key person.

Big Impact on New Jersey Market

Whoever win the bidding war, the transaction should have a big impact on the New Jersey online gaming market. Bwin.Party is a partner with Borgata, which leads the online casino and online poker site numbers for the New Jersey gaming market. The company which ends up owning Bwin is going to be the leader in New Jersey iGaming.

If the winner ends up being 888 Holdings, the lead is likely to be insurmountable, because 888 Holdings also works in partnership with Caesars Interactive, the number two competitor in the NJ market. If so, then 888 Poker might be able to compete with PokerStars in the New Jersey online market, if PokerStars ever is approved. But even if GVC Holdings wins the Bwin-Party bid process, then GVC should be a major player in America’s number one legal market at the moment.

mohegan sun NJ

Mohegan Sun enters the New Jersey iGaming Market

The New Jersey online casino market added another brand on Monday with the launch MoheganSunCasino.com, who’s brick and mortar location is based in Connecticut.

The new operation is the result of a collaborative deal with Resorts casino in Atlantic City and uses the same NYX i-gaming platform and New Jersey licence.

It was reported by PlayNJ.com that Mohegan Sun took over the management of Resorts Casino in August of 2012, and is the second brand to operate under Resorts interactive gaming licence. New Jersey licensees are permitted to operate up to five brands on a single licence.

Resorts Also Tied To PokerStars

Resorts also has a deal with PokerStars, contingent on the latter obtaining a New Jersey licence, an achievement the online poker giant is looking to secure this quarter.

Given the high awareness of the Mohegan Casino brand, Director of Interactive Marketing, Lee Terfloth expects the new online venture to quickly grow and secure a significant market-share. Through regional marketing, they could actually see the Mohegan Sun name more than they do the Borgata name. And being so far from Atlantic City, they may not feel any in-state loyalty to venues such as the Borgata.

Resorts’ own NYX-powered online operation was launched in February this year and, despite being late into the market, is doing surprisingly well, in June capturing 4% of the market with revenue of $400,000 after climbing steadily from launch.

Casinos Outside Atlantic City good for New Jersey?

It is likely that a couple of more casinos are going to close in Atlantic City sometime in the future. This is all according to a report filed from Deutsche Bank which can be seen here.

http://media.nj.com/atlantic_impact/other/DB_CorpCredit_2015-05-13_0900b8c089aea144[1].pdf

In the report, it was strongly suggested that New Jersey open more casinos outside of the Atlantic City. With the budget concerns lawmakers are facing and ongoing brick-and-mortar casino construction in nearby states, it would be a no-brainer.

It has been speculated that casinos in the northern part of New Jersey “could generate well over $500 million, putting [roughly] $275 million into the state’s coffers and thus is a smart move for the state.” according to a NJ.com article.

Casinos built in say the Meadowlands or Jersey City can attracted a lot of the New York City gamblers who do not want to make the 2+hour trip to Atlantic City. This can potentially take away some of the PA casino client base and help New Jersey solidify itself as the east coast leader in casino gaming.

A top lawmaker in the Garden State reportedly has indicated that there’s a strong possibility of a statewide vote to determine if casinos can be built outside of Atlantic City.

AMAYA CEO – POKERSTARS TO ENTER NJ IN THIRD QUARTER

Amaya-twoReported on  onlinepokerreport.comAmaya’s CEO David Baazov has reassured that PokerStars will receive approval to enter the New Jersey market sometime in the third quarter of 2015. Hopefully the presence of the online poker giant can add some life to the struggling poker market here in the New Jersey struggling poker market.

New Jersey’s DGE report for April’s recent revenue has showed, online poker’s year-over-year numbers declined from $2.59 million to $1.98 million.

With PokerStars launching in the third quarter it can mean many different things. Does this indicate that online poker in New Jersey has seen it’s best days? Will PokerStars come along and demonstrate how an online poker product should be marketed? Will they offer a more superior schedule and value for their MTTs? Will other operators be forced to step up their game? Time will tell.

Below is the link to the NJ DGE website where you can see the complete revenue report for April 2015.
