The battle to legalize online poker, and online gambling in general, represents an issue much larger than whether people should be allowed to gamble, online or off. It is an issue of people being able to take back control of the laws through local and state regulation, regardless of what Washington D.C. decides should be the one size fits all rules.
The United States, is supposed to mean just that. States make their own rules, yet are still united as a country. States making their own rules is beneficial to our country in 2 primary ways: It creates a free market approach among our states forcing them to evolve as it’s citizens’ see fit, and it balances the power from a far too powerful and corrupt federal government. Not to mention that dealing with setbacks or corruption is always easier on a smaller level, such as a state level.
As silly as it may seem, the battle to legalize online gambling through the states (among other state based laws) just may remind the people of this country that we are still capable of making the rules, as was intended.
It’s more than just legalize online poker
This is a matter of our constitutional rights. Our government should focus on protecting us from corporations and those that do us harm, rather than protecting us from ourselves, and infringing on our personal liberties.
This is a matter of freedom. This is what our country is all about. The hypocrisy in not allowing an adult to gamble if they want in the free-est country in the world is laughable.
I would like to thank those of you out there who are organizing, planning, and putting in the groundwork for this new state legislation. I am optimistic about the future because of the work that committed citizens of this country continue to do.
